Excellence Master Fellowships at University of Geneva's Faculty of Science

What is this opportunity? 

The University of Geneva's Faculty of Science is a renowned international research institution at the forefront of scientific discovery. Its diverse research spans numerous disciplines, including astronomy, biology, chemistry and biochemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, pharmaceutical sciences, earth sciences, and environmental science. The Faculty is home to two National Centres of Competence in Research funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SwissMAP and Planets), and participates in numerous European research projects. Its Master's programs provide excellent training for both academic and professional careers in fields like industry, teaching, scientific administration, communication, and media. These programs are taught entirely in English, or in a combination of English and French (see individual program descriptions). With support from external partners, the Faculty of Science offers an Excellence Fellowship program for outstanding and highly motivated students seeking a Master of Science degree in one of its disciplines. Selection for these fellowships is based on academic excellence.

Benefits

  • A grant amounting to CHF 10'000 to CHF 15’000/year (no teaching duties)
  • Extended for the regular duration of the chosen Master's program (three or four semesters) 

Eligibility

  • Are you among the top of your class, regardless of where you completed or are completing your bachelor’s degree? 
  • Do you have a passion for scientific inquiry and a vision for groundbreaking research? 
  • Must meet the admission criteria of your chosen Master’s program and submit a stellar application file.

Application

The application (in English or French) must include the following documents in the form of a SINGLE pdf file:

  • A scan of your national identity card or passport.
  • A Curriculum Vitae (2 pages maximum).
  • The transcript of exams passed during the bachelor education, with all grades.
  • A motivation letter in which you describe your specific scientific interests and your motivation to pursue a Master of Science program at the University of Geneva.
  • If possible: Letters of references from two professors (preferably sent by them directly to Excellence-Master-Sciences@unige.ch) attesting your aptitude to this program.
  • Any other pertinent information like results of GRE (General requirement examination), of TOEFL or other language test.

The application is made online from the beginning of January of each year. After registering, you will receive an e-mail containing a personal link allowing you to fill out the application form.
